The Swim Tangaroa programme is designed to encourage and assist whānau (families) to develop Swimming and Water Safety skills through participating in a variety of fun and safe activities in the water. - Balance, movement and recovery
- Breath control, submersion and readiness

- Swimming stroke development

Swim Tangaroa Programme
Swim Tangaroa swimming and water safety lessons focus on contemporary, experiential, activity-based aquatic learning experiences.
Swim Tangaroa is a fun and engaging way for kids and adults to learn to swim and be safe in aquatic environments. Suitable for [infants from 6 months of age through to adults], our swimming lessons empower students to grow their swimming ability and confidence through a variety of exercises tailored to promote optimal development and competency.
The Swim Tangaroa Programme at [Venue Name] runs during school terms throughout the year, with term-based enrolments. Enrolments are open at any time throughout the term and for future terms, subject to availability.
Students can progress at any time and will be awarded with a certificate upon level progression.

Overview of Learning Outcomes
Pēpi – Infants
Begin your child’s water safety journey from 6 months of age with sessions focusing on water familiarisation. Parents or Carers and their infants will learn essential swimming skills while enjoying themselves in a fun and comfortable environment.
- Suitable for babies aged 6+ months (recommended to make a booking from 5 months of age).
- A Parent/Carer is required to be in the water with their infant for the full duration of the lesson.

Tamaiti – Preschool
Ensure your little one is safe in and around water. Lessons for pre-school aged children implement a fun-filled and activity-based style of learning, focusing on safe entries and exits and breath control, helping to build independence and water confidence.
- Suitable for children aged 3+ years.
- Parent/Carer observing from poolside for the full duration of the lesson.

Tamariki – Children
Lessons for primary-aged children implement a fun-filled and activity-based style of learning, focusing on the five key areas of learning:
- Safe entries and exits
- Breath Control, Submersion and Readiness
- Balance, Movement and Recovery
- Stroke Development
- Water Safety

Swim Tangaroa Developmental Squads
The Swim Tangaroa Developmental Squad levels (Waka 1 and Waka 2), serve as a transition from learning the foundations of swimming and water safety to participation in recreation or competitive swimming squads. These levels are designed to encourage continued participation in aquatic activity including involvement in competitive swimming, school competitions and also swimming for health and wellbeing.

Adults
It’s never too late to learn to swim or improve your existing swimming skills. Swim Tangaroa swimming and water safety lessons are available for teens aged from 16 years through to adults.
Lessons may be held in private or small group sessions. Various levels and class options are available to help you build or improve your confidence in and around the water.

We welcome students of all abilities and ages to participate in our inclusive Swim Tangaroa Programme. Our lessons can be easily modified and adapted to suit your specific needs, whether this may be a one-on-one lesson, extra time or other. Everyone’s Swim Tangaroa journey is powered by innovative technology. Enrol in lessons via our Active World app. Follow the steps below:
- Download the Active World app
- Create an account
- Tap Book Weekly Lesson from the home screen
- Add each student you wish to enrol, if not yourself. Then simply follow the prompts to find a lesson and time that suits you.

The Active World app was specifically designed to improve communication and interaction between our Swim Tangaroa team and students, parents/carers. Your self-managed personal portal will enable you to:
